Who are the founders of Speed Kitchen?

Speed Kitchen was founded by childhood friends Paurav Rastogi and Shamin Kapoor. It is not just a startup; it's a move to reshape how food entrepreneurs operate and thrive. Their story is about vision, resilience, and the determination to solve real-world problems of foodpreneurs.

Early Life and Education

Paurav completed his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Civil Engineering at the Vellore Institute of Technology in 2012. He began his career as a Civil Engineer with Al Riqa Constructions, Dubai, where he worked from 2012 to 2013 and labour deployment for the Emirates Aluminium Project under Larsen & Toubro. Following this, he joined Unitech Limited in April 2013 and managed the billing and planning department for the Unitech Infospace site. Paurav served as Senior Manager-Planning & QS at Eros Group, till 2015. He then joined  Saya Homes as General Manager-Strategic Planning and Contracts, providing contractor project management consultancy from 2015 to 2017.

During this period, he also founded Ishwar Engineering Consultants, a project management consultancy firm, and ran it for two years. In 2017, he joined OYO as director of Central Infrastructure and Procurement Excellence, working in Delhi and London. Paurav'ss globetrotting experiences, which took him to cities like London, Korea, and various parts of Europe, gave him unique insights into the food industry. During his travels, he observed the struggles of food entrepreneurs, finding the right location, navigating complex lease agreements, and managing high operational costs.

The Entrepreneurial Journey

The seeds of Speed Kitchen were sown in 2020. The journey began with Paurav Rastogi's firsthand exposure to the challenges faced by restaurant owners. These observations ignited a spark in Paurav. He envisioned a solution that could ease the burden on food entrepreneurs and empower them to focus solely on their passion, creating great food. He reached out to his childhood friend, Shamin Kapoor, who brought complementary skills to the table. Shamin's background in performance marketing, honed during his tenure at Housing.com, and his international education in Singapore made him the perfect partner for this ambitious endeavour.

In March 2021, Paurav and Shamin launched Speed Kitchen to empower food entrepreneurs.

Speed Kitchen

Speed Kitchen is a platform that provides ready-to-use cloud kitchen spaces equipped with the necessary infrastructure and licenses. By introducing a revenue-sharing model, they sought to eliminate the barriers of high upfront costs and inflexible leases. This innovative approach allowed food brands to launch operations in as little as four days with a certain amount of capital investment.

Speed Kitchen is a co-working cloud kitchen that offers plug-and-play setups that simplify operations for food entrepreneurs. From identifying prime real estate to conducting compliance checks, Speed Kitchen takes care of every detail, enabling brands to focus entirely on their culinary creations. The company operates in four cities across India, hosting over 50 brands in 130 kitchens. Its clientele includes industry giants like Haldiram, Chaayos, Chef Ritu Dalmia, and promising startups.

Recently,  Paurav and Shamin appeared on Shark Tank India Season 4. With a confident pitch and a clear vision, they sought an investment of ₹2 crore for a 3% equity stake. The Sharks were initially hesitant and questioned the business's valuation. However, the duo's passion, solid track record, and the company's impressive financial growth ultimately won them over.

The final deal was a collective investment of ₹2 crore for a 6% equity stake, sealed by Sharks Ritesh Agarwal, Azhar Iqubal, and Kunal Bahl. The trio's expertise in real estate, technology, and scaling businesses added immense value to Speed Kitchen's growth trajectory.

All the sharks were very happy with Paurav's energy and hard work. They appreciated it and came together. As the food delivery industry continues to expand, Speed Kitchen's innovative model positions it as a leader in the cloud kitchen space. The founders' vision of empowering food entrepreneurs is transforming kitchen operations and inspiring a new generation of startups to think big and dream big.
