"Every sick animal deserves proper care irrespective it is pet or not" -Anuj Dhasmana

My name is Anuj Dhasmana, a resident of Prateet Nagar, Raiwala, Uttrakhand. I'm an ex-pharmacist at the animal health care department and am now preparing for the (Livestock Extension Officer) LEO post. With a passion for animal welfare, I have been dedicated to serving the helpless creatures who become vulnerable due to injuries or illnesses. I have established a shelter at my home, where I look after and provide care to animals. My love for animals and the desire to help them have been my driving force since childhood.

After completing my high school education, during my summer vacations, I got inspired by Yogesh Balodi, a dedicated animal welfare worker from Prateet Nagar. In 2017, I started working alongside a government veterinarian in the field of animal healthcare, assisting in the treatment of sick livestock. This experience equipped me with valuable knowledge about animal healthcare.  I gained knowledge about animals and the animal department, and then I completed my D. Pharma. I got selected as a government pharmacist in the department. During this time, my attention shifted towards the stray animals left injured and unattended. But As a government employee, I was bound to only help pets. So I left my job because I wanted to help these stray animals, who have nobody to care about.

Over the past six years,  I've rescued more than 12000 animals who are injured or abandoned. I have treated more than 3,000 cattle, including cows, monkeys, Dogs and other animals. The majority of these cases involved animals suffering from various ailments, with cases coming in from places like Raiwala, Rishikesh, and nearby areas injured or sick due to road accidents. I receive calls from concerned citizens, as well as government authorities, seeking help for these animals. Currently, I have 26 dogs,6 cats, and 17 cows at my shelter home. I see myself as a caretaker and a friend to these voiceless creatures.

Initially, I used my own funds to arrange for medicines and bandages for the animals. But more money was needed for a large number. After leaving my job it became more tough to manage. However, as people saw my dedication to animal welfare, many individuals came forward to contribute financially. This support has enabled me to continue my work effectively. I am grateful for the assistance provided through crowdfunding, which has become a lifeline for my efforts.

We mainly cover an area of 44 km between Rishikesh Haridwar and Baniyawala. We are based in Rishikesh, I'm raising funds for constructing a proper shelter in Rishikesh. Recently I also did a fundraising cycle ride from Rishikesh to Nainital.

I firmly believe that every sick animal deserves proper care irrespective they are a pet or not. Many times, due to a lack of resources, I cannot keep the larger animals with me. So, I inspect and treat them outside. However, I bring small animals to my home. I care for them until they recover fully, and once they are healthy, I release them back to the same location where I found them.
